Special Issue "Reshaping Sustainable Development and Resilience of the National Economies. An interdisciplinary approach - A Commemorative Issue in Honour of Professor Gheorghe Zaman, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, 1942–2021"

Dear Colleagues,

This is a Special Issue to honour Professor Gheorghe Zaman, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, who passed away after the fight with SARS-CoV-2 virus on 8 October 2021.

Professor Gheorghe Zaman held a PhD in Economics from the Romanian Academy and he was elected fellow of the Department of Applied Economics, Cambridge University, UK (1968-1969).

Since 1990 he was the Director of the Institute of National Economy - Romanian Academy and the Editor-in-Chief of the Romanian Journal of Economics. Between 1993 and 1994 he was a representative of the Romanian Academy in the Working Group of the World Bank for the elaboration of the Research and Development Reform Strategy in Romania, and between 1993 and 1996 he was a member of the Advisory Board on Economic Issues under the Romanian Presidency.

He was awarded the Diploma of the National Bank of Romania (1995), the Medal of the General Association of Romanian Economists (1997), and the National Order "Star of Romania" in the rank of Knight (2002). He has held the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from various Romanian universities. In 2006, he became the president of the General Association of Economists from Romania.

In terms of academic activity, he published journal articles and books in economics, with interdisciplinary perspectives. The main issues addressed in his works refer to: sustainable development and economic resilience, theories and policies of market economy transition reform, efficiency of growth factors of the national economy, privatisation and restructuring in Romania, international economic relations, macroeconomic forecasting and planning, the economy of technological progress and scientific research, etc.

In his professional career he managed to harmonise his activity as university professor, scientific researcher and economic advisor. He identified the economic and social implications of the major developments in his research areas, and he provided scientifically substantiated arguments for complex transformations and often controversial policy measures in recent decades.

We expect to collect papers in the areas that Professor Gheorghe Zaman had an interest in and contributed to, and we urge all of his colleagues and collaborators over the years to contribute to this Special Issue, and thus honour his legacy to the profession.
